Martin Violich

Branch Manager,
Truckstops, Mt Maunganui

Also starting his career over a decade ago, Martin joined Sime Darby in 2007. The past 10 years have been a series of promotions for Martin—beginning as a Parts Assistant, completing a Parts Apprenticeship and a range of management programs, before moving to Rotorua as Parts Manager, then Branch Manager, and finally moving to Mt Maunganui as Branch Manager also.

“I looked at Sime Darby as a career pathway.”

Setting goals

Martin attributes much of his success within Sime Darby to his long-term perspective. Ten years ago, he was far from being a Branch Manager, working as a Parts Assistant. However, he viewed Sime Darby as a career path, and worked his way towards greater responsibility.

Setting goals has played a large part in this long-term perspective. “It is important to set goals and discuss with your managers how to achieve them.” Supportive managers pushing you to your potential is crucial in this process, and, according to Martin, those can be found in abundance at Sime Darby.
